Obanos to Villatuerta

It is your road and yours alone. Others may walk with you but no one can walk it for you.

A new design.
We are ready to go.

Small towns big churches. There is a legend in Obanos that says William (Guilluame) Duke of Aquitane, killed his sister Felicia in a fit of fury after her refusal to return to court duties after her Pilgrimage to Santiago. Filled with guilt and remorse he also took the Pilgrimage and renounced his nobility for a life of poverty, penitence and prayer. He lived the rest of his life in a hermitage.
On our way to Puente la Reina.
Coming into Puente la Reina was this metal statue.
Colorful wall murals are in lots of towns.
They used to have the medival markets here.
Iglesia del Crucifijo. Originally under the auspice of the Knights Templar. Their churches seem to have this rounded end.
Streets of Puente la Reina.
Puenta la Reina- The Queens Bridge built to move pilgrims.
Here we caught the bus for 7 km to Cirauqui then walked the remaining 12km to our albergue in Villatuerta.
Tunnel out of Cirauqui.

Roman road. This was a bitch to walk on.
Vineyards are starting to appear.
Over the Roman Bridge.
A wonderful oasis.
We came across our Irish friends and they were using their walking sticks to get figs down.

Villatuerta.
Pool for pilgrims to cool their poor feet.
Our Albergue. We were the only ones in our room and had our own cubby holes.
Check this floor out. You had to wear shoes to walk on it.
Vegetarian paella for dinner. So good. I kept seeing these big flat black pans everywhere. Now I know what they are for.
