Villatuerta to Monjardin

In every walk with nature one receives far more than you seek.


We started in Villatuerta and headed towards Estella. About 4 km.

Now I have to explain this. When we were in Pamplona the directions were to take the garbage out. It turns out that you take your garbage and recycling to these little centers around the neighborhood.
Just outside of Estella is this blacksmith who does amazing work. This is the outside of his shop.
Walk a little further and you are in Irache. Where the monks own a winery and there is free flowing wine out of the wall. Roz got water. And of course it was raining.

Prague -The City of a Hundred Spires

Rain, rain and more rain. That was the forecast for the next few days. Karolina, Sune, Oliver (Oli) and Oskar (Osky) Fredriksen were our wonderful hosts. Karolina had just come back from Montreal from a world  curling conference so off to work she went. That left Roz to take me site seeing. One of her favourite places is the castle and in the castlenis the beautiful cathedral. Many of the tombs are ancient around 10th century. Becuse Prague wasn't bombed like London and Paris it has managed to retain much of it's history. The walls of the castle surround several churchs and a baslica which was originally a nunnery. Basilica. There is a row of the castle wall that contains old shops and the most amazing medival armour collection. I love this statue and some days this is how we feel. And We Are Off

We left Paris at 7:11 and arrived in the south of France 4 hours later. This is why. First site off the train in St Jean Pies de Port. I hope we look better than that when we are done. First stop was at the Pilgrims office to register and get our Pilgrims passport  (Credencial del Peregrino). You need this to be able to stay at the lower cost Albergues (hostels). This is a kind of passport you get stamped at places along the way. Cafe's, albergues, churches etc. For the last 100 km you must have 2 stamps a day to qualify for a Camino Compostela Certificate. We are after the distance one too. I guess back in the middle ages you could walk the Camino as penance and a shell was the Certificate but of course it turns out there was trade in fraud as shells were bought and sold. In the 13th century the church required a lettered Compostela  to show you had done your penance and had your ticket to heaven that you could show at the pearly gates to St Peter.
