Monjardin to Sansol

Somewhere on your journey, don't forget to turn around and enjoy the view.

Night time at Villamayor de Monjardin was spectacular. But see the clock tower with bells? It rang every hour the time. Like 12 chimes for midnight. And one chime every half hour. Earplugs did not work well that  night. Then at 6:30 the rooster started crowing. I think it was saying,  "Get out of the albergue. Get out of the albergue." Most albergues do want you out at 8am.
Roz and I shared a room with a fellow from the Netherlands who had been on the Camino from the Netherlands for quite awhile. He had returned to the Camino after going home to help his sister when she gave birth . Now he had returned and was continuing. He had worked at the airport in Amsterdam, was 35 and wanted to just be in the moment. The other fellow was from Slovakia. He was walking the Camino because he inadvertently had given his mom covid. She was so sick that they had called an ambulance and she was barely able to get to it. He prayed to God and promised that if his mom survived he would walk the Camino. Here he was. He was 40 and he had 27 days. He was putting in heavy walking days.

Sunrise at Villamayor de Monjardin.
Camino sign. Note the fag in his mouth.
Our walk down from Monjardin.
Gotta love the eroded paths. Thank God it wasn't raining either day or we would have been walking in rivers.
Having fun.
The country side to Los Arcos.
And we come around the corner and there is a food truck. It is run by two Canadians who live is Spain but can't make any money so they run a non profit that you can volunteer at. We had  lovely ham and cheese omelets and I had my cafe con leche and good chat with the owner. They also run a Pilgrims Oasis in Viana.
Trudging along the countryside. It seems flat but there have been so many ups and downs.
The grapes are ripe.
Sheep in a pen. We later saw them with the Shepherd as she was moving them. The sound of the bells was incredible.
Miscellaneous church on the hill.
Here is the shepherd and her sheep. Her dog worked at making sure the sheep were going where they should and not come up on the road. She just strolled along.
Los Arcos. And now we have rain.
We managed to get to a little restaurant and had nice long chat with two women from Norway we kept meeting. Then it was time to get the bus.
The church Plaza that all towns seems to have.
Waiting at the bus stop. We thiught we were at the right one but thank goodness another lady came along. We were supposed to be on the other side of the road. We have been having  a bag of our stuff forwarded. We put our sleeping bags, extra clothes and towels in Roz's backpack. It reduces the weight we are having to carry. Anyways, the lady who helped us said that one of the vans had been in an accident and her bag hadn't arrived and then two more people showed up whose bag hadn't arrived and they were going onto Logrono. Thankfully the bus was 20 minutes late and the luggage van pulled up just as the bus arrived.
15min bus ride to Sansol for 1.45 Euros.
Albergue  Sansol served up meat paella. We had dinner with an American women who was just rude about dinner. Didn't like this and didn't like that. But drank the wine.
