San Juan de Ortega to Orb
Another chilly morning as we set out but the sun soon warmed up our backs. We had mostly a slight down hill to Ages.
Ages in the distance.
The sign lies. Or is it by highway?

Cows sleep here?

Sheep sleep here?

Farming big fields.

Standing stones to commerate the individuals who worked the digs for the Atapuerca prehistoric caves.

Atapuerca is UNESCO site that is home to numerous archeology sites. They contain the oldest human remains in the Iberian Penninsula. They have found 5 different species of humanoid. Home sapien, Homo neanderthaensis, Homo heidelbergensis, Homo erectus and Homo antecessor. Homo antecessor has been dated back over 800,000 years and a new find dates back 1.2 million. The area is unique because of the abundance of fossils, their preservation and the tools found. From primitive to Bronze age. What is also unique is how many and how close they are to each other. Also found are new mammal species and evidence of human consumption of beasts and spiritual life.

That is our path in the distance up into the mountains again.
Cool statue in town.
Up we go.
Meadow at the top.
The toughest part for Roz and I is the uneveness of the ground and having to automatically adjust your body for every step. It is not an easy footing for us oldies.
This says "The Pilgrim may have dominated the Navarre Mountains and saw the vast fields of Spain but he has not enjoyed a more beautiful view than this one."
Our position on our map.
The view. You can see Burgos where we will be tomorrow.
So ignore the Jews equals Nazi sign. I had stopped to take a picture of the distance sign. But on the sign is two arrows. Well I was way ahead of Roz this day and I was supposed to turn left at that sign. In my defense I didn't know I was supposed to turn there but I guess Roz was waving and yelling and trying to get my attention but I had three very noisy Spanish girls in front of me and it wasn't until they turned a corner that I heard her. Luckily we could just continue and the road came around. So it all worked out. But now I get a map lesson before we leave in the morning and she will now blow a whistle at me.
This area of farm land is strewn with this typen of rock.
Now they know how to stack bales.
This is me some days.
How would you like to park in that.
