Bratislava to Lodz Poland September 11, 2025
September 11, 2025. On the train to Lodz (pronounced Woodge) Poland. It was easy to get to Warsaw or Krakow but not as easy to get to Lodz by train. Our original plans were to spend almost a week in Prague and while Roz and Wes curled we would poke around Krakow, Auschwitz etc. and Czechia. Then we would spend the last few days exploring Prague. The cancelation of the Prague spiel right before they left in August had Roz scrambling to find another spiel that suited four couples itineraries. She did an awesome job and so our plans changed to go spend 3 full days in Lodz. We didn't mind as we hadn't been there before and probably wouldn't have gone there otherwise. Since we had originally said we were going to rent a car in Prague we decided that we woud rent in Krakow and then drive from there. It also just so happened that a few days previous to leaving Bratislava, Poland shot down some Russian drones and closed the Warsaw airspace. We decided to avoid that area.
Um. It seems that I didn't realize that Ed's sandwich had fallen out of his pack and was under my butt for quite a while. Definition of a warm, flat sandwich.
This is Slovakia countryside. Lots of planted tree farms.
Trains and trams are everywhere. There are no underground metro/subways in these post Soviet countries... only above ground tracks through the countryside and city streets.
Nuclear power is big over here. These were on our way to Krakow. As well we saw 5 reactors in one place in Poland. There are no pictures of Krakow to Lodz as the photographer was driving.
This was the outside of our hotel. Do you see that little tunnel to the left? The parking was through there and we had a Nissian Xtrail SUV. Mirrors in and Ed guiding me. I channeled my inner Griffin and made it through everytime without a scratch but every sensor was going off I tell you.
